GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS TO BE FOLLOWED IN A LABORATORY
1.   A student must bring lab coat, practical notebook, a rough copy, lab manual, pen, pencil to lab.
2.  Note down the instructions given by the teacher in rough notebook and follow the procedure and precautions carefully.
3.  Assemble all the apparatus on your table before starting an experiment.
4.  Handle the apparatus carefully according to the given instructions.
5.  Wear lab coat and safety glasses during an experiment.
6.  Record the observations and readings in the notebook.
7.  Wash the apparatus thoroughly after use and keep it in proper place.
8.  Report any breakage in the apparatus to the teacher.

RECORD IN LABORATORY NOTEBOOK
1.  Write the aim of the experiment, theory, apparatus, chemicals required, procedure and precautions on the right hand side of the notebook.
2.  Write aim of the experiment, diagram, observations, calculations, result on the left hand side of the notebook.
3.  Always enter date of performing experiment in the notebook on both sides i.e. L.H.S. and R.H.S.
4.  Do not tear off pages from notebook.
5.  Always enter correct entries in the notebook. Do not manipulate the results.
6.  Make an index of the experiments performed.
7.  Be regular in your work and keep your notebook neat and clean.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS TO BE FOLLOWED IN THE LABORATORY
1.  Never taste a chemical. It may be poisonous.
2.  Never touch a chemical with hand. It can cause itching or blisters.
3.  Do not heat inflammable liquids on the flame.
4.  Close the reagent bottles after taking out the required amount of chemicals. Use minimum quantity of chemicals.
5.  Do not put back the unused chemicals in the bottles. Dispose them properly.
6.  Use tongs and test tube holders to hold hot beakers, flasks and test tubes.
7.  Do not throw burning matchstick into the dustbin.
8.  Do not throw broken apparatus and thermometers into the sink. Dispose them off in a dustbin.
9.  Always wear lab coats during performing an experiment. Do not wear very loose fitting clothes.
10.  Use a fuming cupboard for experiments involving toxic gases.
11.  Never misuse or play with any chemical.
12.  Never smell any gas directly. Bring vapours near your nose by waving your hands near them.
